Bardic Songs for the Grove of the Laughing Oak

Spirit of the Laughing Oak
(Invocation)[by Willow]

By deep black earth and gentle breeze,
Raging fires and tranquil seas,
We call upon and now invoke
The Spirit of the Laughing Oak…

Candles for Hallowmas
(Hallowmas)[by Everthorn]

Memory Eternal (2 Times)

The veil has thinned (memory eternal)
And so begins
The end of the year
When those we love (memory eternal)
Below as above now can draw near

We light our candles for Hallowmass
And await what we must learn
Elders long dead, God and Goddess
Now walk the Earth in turn

Memory Eternal (2 Times)

The final harvest (memory eternal)
Our honored guests
Remember now our dead
Tis a time of sorrow (memory eternal)
Yet joy tomorrow
Thru winter we’ll be fed

We light our candles for Hallowmass
And sing in the New Year
Coven & Elder, Priest & Priestess
Invoke for all to hear

Here each person will in turn recite the names of their beloved dead, and if they choose something about those persons or person. Each of these recitations will be followed by the repeated refrain:

Memory Eternal (3 Times)

We light our candles for Hallowmas
See it flicker in Children’s eyes
Look to tomorrow, learn from the past
‘Neath watchful ancestral eyes

Memory Eternal(3 Times)

In Winter
(Winter Solstice/Imbolc)[by Everthorn]

The land casts out a heavy sigh as Autumn stars to fade
She shakes the leaves from her emerald hair as the wind loosens her braid.
Pulling up her winter blanket, she rolls over to go to sleep.
Another year of sacrifice has filled her children’s needs.

Out here in the Winter Wood, I swear I can hear her breathe
I feel the need to watch over her, until she regains her strength
And as she covers everything with pure, white, untouched snow
It occurs to me that this is how we are all supposed to go.

(Chorus)
Let your Light Shine Out
Let your Heart Beat Loud
Let your prayers speak out, as if death could never break you.
Let your Light Shine Out
Let your Voice Sing Out
Let your Mind Pour Out the truth that lies within you

She rubs the sleep from her eyes as the snow left in the spring
My breath rides out on cold crisp air like a promise you can see
And everything that lies beneath feels the tingle of the reborn Son.
Anticipation resonates in the growth of life to come.

(Chorus)

As each caresses me with an air of something yearned
It plants a seed within my soul, I cultivate as I learn
And as I learn I grow to change, and then I change to grow
Just like the winter wood that sleeps beneath the snow

(Chorus)

The Ribbon Tree
(Beltaine) [by Everthorn]

Round and round and round it goes
The God and Goddess know
Where our wishes go
Wrapped in prayers and bows.

Circle in and circle out,
The ribbons twist about,
Building spirals to the clouds,
Ever laughing loud.

Young and old and old and young
Hearts and minds as one
Raising spirits, joy and fun,
And dancing in the sun.

Sacred Dance
(Beltaine/Summer Solstice) [by Everthorn & nic Morrigan]

Wrapped in star light, standing on the edge of night.
Night is calling me to dance among the stars.
Stars surround her, moon hung low upon her breast.
Breast rising , falling; blows the perfume from her hair.

Hair slips around me, a soft caress upon my skin.
Skin in the moon light tingles with the evening dhu.
Dhu sweet kisses stir my mortal heart to race.
Race with all passion to her silky waiting arms.

I'm her lover, and I'm her child;
A sacred dance in a timeless spiral.
Tho' she's the garden, I'm the fruit on the vine
That with each season I'll rebirth and die

She holds me tender like a mother to her womb.
A womb impassioned with the smell of flowers in bloom.
A bloom embracing that lifts me off the ground.
Ground falls below me; the child returns to mother's arms...

I'm her lover and I'm her child;
A sacred dance in a timeless spiral.
Tho' she's the garden, I'm the fruit on the vine
That with each season I'll rebirth and die.

Bring the Harvest Home
(Lughnasadh/Fall Equinox)[by Everthorn & nic Morrigan]

Corn is ripen on the stalk
Berries on the vine
Flocks of birds fill the air, the end of summer time

Leaves falling from the trees
Jack Frost upon the breeze
For our Lord it is almost time to go, his barge soon sails west

He gave our seeds tender care (Bring the Harvest Home)
Now his bounty’s everywhere (Bring the Harvest Home)
Through his love
We’ll eat all year
Bring the Harvest Home

Pumpkins now growing gold
Nature seems to sigh
The Bear’s Sigil rises high, in the Autumn sky

People gather round the fire
To sing the harvest songs
The lady now will hold us close, until our Lord comes home

She taught us how to reap (Bring the Harvest Home)
She taught us how to sow (Bring the Harvest Home)
With her love
There is no fear
Bring the Harvest Home

Bring the Harvest Home (Our seeds got tender care)
Bring the Harvest Home (Their bounty’s everywhere)
Bring the Harvest Home
Bring the Harvest Home

Repeat Last Chorus

Fool
(Beginnings)[by Everthorn]

Life is full of good intentions
And shattered dreams litter your trail.
Owing no god or man an answer,
The climb is treacherous, but you don’t care.
You don’t care.

Look for wisdom in your search.
Walk with caution in your shoes.
Pay attention to your instincts.
Remember, the world don’t circle you.
Circle you.

It’s the fool who dares to enter
Where no right minded angel would go.
A word to the wise is wasted
On the fool who thinks he knows.
The fool thinks he knows.

The day is bright and full of promises.
So many offer a hand you don’t need.
Someone upstairs is always watching you,
But there’s no desire to believe.
To believe.

(Chorus)
What He Knows is Himself.

Motherland
(Sovereignty)[by Everthorn & nic Morrigan)

Since long before the Mil,
She’s been each river, rock and hill.
Banba, Fotla, Eire, Ireland or Erin
She’ll always be.

Home is the motherland, tho’ I’ve never been
It’s where I long to be.
Home is the motherland, upon the isles of Erin.

Tho’ war and famine’s test
Had torn us from her breast.
We crossed the sea-her deep within,
Tho’ leaving land and kin

Home is the motherland, tho’ I’ve never been
That’s where I ought to be.
Home is the motherland among the clans of Erin.

Heroes, Saints, and Martyrs,
Druids, Poets, one and all.
Their blood is coursing thru our veins.
These people who stand tall.

We look back across the sea
Reaching for our family tree.
Dancing, music and lore
Leave us aching for more.

Home is the motherland where my heart has been
And where it will always be.
Home is the motherland within the soul of Ireland.

Elemental
(Love)[by Everthorn]

Well we’re not that well off
If we measure material things
But we never gazed, concerned in that direction.

Enraptured with you
Amazed with all we’ve been through.
I can’t believe how comfortable growing old, is with you.

(Chorus)
Love is like a river
Always changing the land it flows through.
But its waters do not separate
They join the two.

There’s a passion in the way
We fight or make love
And we’ve forged a sword so strong, it cannot break.

(Chorus)
Love is like a fire
Its flames it sometimes burns
But it keeps us warm in the coldest times.
And it’s closeness we yearn

If age has left a mark
Then it’s enhanced the finer features
If this is what It’s all about
It’s more than I had ever viewed.

(Chorus)
Love is like the wind
It will never be controlled
And the way it blows is ageless
Like our kindred souls.

(Chorus.)
Love is like the fertile soil
A place to plant your seeds
A rich and constant foundation
To nurture our needs

In This Life
(Union)[by Willow & Everthorn]

Looking in your eyes, I see all the best of who I am
Reflected back at me.
You take me as I am. With you I don’t have to hide,
Tho’ all my secrets be exposed…
Still in your eyes I shine

In this life and the next…
For the person you are and the person you make me
For all that I am when I’m with you.
As sure as the sun rises and sets,
You’ll have my love in this life and the next.

Sometimes I watch you sleep in the early morning hours
When the sun has not yet dried
the fragrant dew-kissed flowers.

And I think to myself, together there’s nothing we can’t do.
And I thank the god and goddess for leading me to you.

Chorus

You make me want to do my best in everything I do.
And I’m a better person just for loving you.

You’re the inspiration daydreams are made of
We can touch the stars on wings of love…

Chorus
I vow my love to you in this life and the next.
